Open Question: What are the weirdest baseball-player pre-game rituals or superstitions that you’ve heard of?
Yeah Mimi I was just noticing that! They have some articles that seem like they’re complete lies.. like this: http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/not_knowing_how_to and this http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/chase_utley_feels_phillies A few days ago on the radio I heard that John Lackey’s pre-game ritual is to design, construct and demolish a luxury hotel on a computer stimulation game, which is pretty much the most bizarre thing I’ve ever heard of. I didn’t really believe until I looked it up and apparently it’s true! http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/superstitious_john_lackey Talk about weird lol. I wonder who will help him out with it in the Red Sox clubhouse. What are the strangest or funniest superstitions or rituals that you’ve heard players do? Aw man you guys are right, it IS fake news haha. I wonder if the guys on the radio got it from that website or another source. There’s like stories about Chase Utley jealous of Cliff Lee’s popularity on the Phillies, Youkilis talking about his adventures in uh, bed, A-Rod smashing a champagne bottle on Melky Cabrera’s head, Pedroia full-out blaming Papelbon for losing the ALDS (which he didn’t, I heard him say so himself)… haha, weird website.
Resolved Question: Has consumerism culture become the only true “American Value”?
Let me make something clear here, I’m not directing anything in particular at anybody! I’m just simply questioning motives of some people. So please don’t think I’m attacking you, because I’m not. But anyways yeah consumption…it seems like the new national pastime. I mean forget baseball…It’s buying and spending. Seemingly, the only true lasting value that’s left…Buying things…People spend the money they don’t have on things they don’t need. Money they don’t have on useless things they don’t need. So they can max up their credit cards and spend the rest of their lives paying 18% interest on something that cost $10.50…And they didn’t like it when they got at home, anyway… Not too bright… I really don’t understand. I feel like the consumerism culture has not only affected America’s lifestyle but affecting our holidays too like Christmas and thanksgiving. Traditionally speaking, these holidays, to me at least, have always been about being with your family, loved ones, sharing compassion, and reflecting on our personal lives. Here in America though, all you ever hear about on the streets, their advertisements, television, etc. is to “buy and spend your money” on useless toys. On black Friday, I was watching the news about how people were all lined up outside of Best Buy @ 3 AM. There was a huge line out in the cold weather and they were all just waiting, just so they can get a furby. I mean seriously? As a kid, my family and I were poor but I didn’t care. I still looked forward to Christmas as much as any rich boy, because last I checked, Christmas isn’t all about receiving silly toys and objects. I couldn’t care less about receiving a plastic figure made from China…because the most priceless and cherishing gift of them all, was to spend time with your family and loved ones. I mean don’t get me wrong, receiving items can be great….but I feel like now it’s at the point where its become solely about that. Sadly some people feel that a Christmas cannot happen without receiving these presents. I just find this depressing think about… Your thoughts?

Resolved Question: What’s happening to the American lifestyle and real meaning of Christmas?

Here in America though, all you ever hear about on the streets, their advertisements, television, etc. is to “buy and spend your money” on useless toys. I mean just watch TV and pay attention to how silly our commercials… “100% satisfaction guaranteed”, “Buy 1 get 1 free!”, “Call today make an order!”, “Call while supplies last!” I mean, has this really become the true meaning of American life and celebrating Christmas?? On black Friday, I was also watching the news about how people were all lined up outside of Best Buy @ 3 AM. I feel like now, our culture has is at the point where its become solely about buying & spending. Sadly some people feel that a Christmas cannot happen without receiving these presents…I disagree. I just find this depressing think about though… Your thoughts? NOOOOPE!!! NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT “biblical christmas” WHERE DID I SAY THAT???? I didnt! By christmas I mean spending time with family, friends, and loved ones. Has nothing to do with biblical nonsense. Besides Christmas or not, I’m directing this question at American consumerism, and/or materialism
